What should I bring to nursery and kindergarten?
Article author: mgr Aneta Świderska - Dyrektor, Opiekun, Lektor

In brief
Bring spare clothes, spare shoes, clothing suited to the weather and items labelled with your child’s name. Meals are provided during the day, so you usually do not need to bring food from home. Before the first day, ask us what the group needs, as requirements depend on age and group.
This checklist is general. The exact requirements depend on your child’s age and group, so please confirm them with the carers before the first day.
What to pack for the first days
A few basic items are enough to start with. Pack them together in one labelled bag or backpack, so it is easy to check the contents when you collect your child.
Basic checklist
- Spare underwear, trousers and a top in a bag or backpack
- Spare shoes, such as indoor slippers or shoes with easy fastenings
- Outdoor clothing for the season, such as a hat, a jacket or an all-in-one suit
- A soft toy or favourite item that helps in the first days
- Personal care items, such as wipes, nappies or pull-ups, if you agree with the carers that you bring them from home
- Bedding for rest time, such as a blanket or a sheet, if the nursery asks for it from home
How to label things
Label everything with your child’s first name, ideally on a sewn-in label or with a fabric marker. This keeps things tidy in the cloakroom and avoids mix-ups, especially with similar clothes.
What you do not need to bring
Meals are provided during the day, so you do not need to pack breakfasts or lunches. Meals are charged at the centre’s rate, and a day of absence reported in advance is not charged. Details are on the nursery meals and kindergarten meals pages.
If your child has an allergy or a special diet, please tell us before the first day so that we can take it into account.
What to ask before you start
Ask us whether your child’s group has specific requirements, for example clothing for movement classes or items for outdoor trips. We will tell you, so you know what to bring and nothing is missing.
Common questions
Do I need to bring food?
No. Children are fed during the day. If your child has an allergy or another diet, tell us before the first day.
Do I need to label things?
Yes, it helps. Label everything with your child’s name, including shoes and hats. This keeps things tidy and avoids mix-ups.
When should I bring the items?
Ideally before the first day, so you can ask about the details. During settling in, it also helps to keep a spare set of clothes at the nursery.

NurseryWhat does settling in at the nursery look like?Settling in means getting used to a new place, a new group and new carers, step by step. In our nursery, children have the same carers in two small groups, and each child joins activities at their own pace. Before the first day, talk to the carers, agree how the first days will go and keep goodbyes calm and short.
Daily lifeWhat does a day at the nursery and kindergarten look like?At Magiczna Kraina nursery and kindergarten, the day runs from 7:00 to 17:00. Children play, exercise, eat and rest, and in the afternoon they take part in extra activities. The nursery serves four meals a day and the kindergarten three. The exact activities depend on the group and the day of the week.
MealsHow do you read the menu and allergen labels?Dishes with allergens have numbers in brackets on the weekly menu. These are allergen codes: (1,6), for example, means gluten and milk. The full legend of codes 1 to 11 is on the meals page. If your child has an allergy or a special diet, please tell us as early as possible, ideally before the first day.
