How to choose a nursery or kindergarten in Poznań?
Article author: mgr Aneta Świderska - Dyrektor, Opiekun, Lektor

In brief
When choosing a nursery or kindergarten, check the entry in the register, opening hours, the number of carers per group, how settling in works, the meals and allergen labelling, and clear fees. Talk to the carers and ask your questions before you apply. Compare places on the same points, which is the easiest way to choose well.
What matters most?
There is no single perfect centre. A good choice is one that suits your child’s age, your daily routine and your approach to parenting. Start with a few specific questions, then see the centre in person.
Checklist
- Register entry: a nursery should be entered in the register of nurseries and children’s clubs
- Opening hours and the daily outline, for example 7:00 to 17:00
- Number of carers per group and whether your child has steady people they know
- Settling in: whether the centre has a plan for the child joining the group
- Meals: the menu, allergen labelling and the rules for absences
- Fees: the registration fee, tuition, meals and what is included
- Extra activities and foreign languages
- Travel time and location from home or work
What to ask during a conversation?
Ask who will look after your child day to day and whether the groups are stable. Ask how the first week goes and how the centre supports settling in.
Check how the menu works and how absences are reported. Ask what the tuition covers and what is charged separately.
Common questions when choosing
How can I check whether a nursery is in the register?
The register of nurseries and children’s clubs is kept by the commune (gmina). You can also ask us about our entry, and we will gladly share the details.
Is it worth comparing centres by price?
It is worth comparing the whole offer: activities, meals, settling in and the number of carers. The lowest fee does not always mean the best choice.
Can I visit before I apply?
Yes. Call or write to us, and we will arrange a visit.

AdmissionsWhat age can a child start nursery or kindergarten? At our nursery we take children aged 1 to 3, and at the kindergarten children aged 2.5 to 6. Children are admitted in the order in which applications arrive. The registration fee of 400 zł reserves a place on the list of admitted children. Ask us about current arrangements when you apply.
NurseryWhat does settling in at the nursery look like?Settling in means getting used to a new place, a new group and new carers, step by step. In our nursery, children have the same carers in two small groups, and each child joins activities at their own pace. Before the first day, talk to the carers, agree how the first days will go and keep goodbyes calm and short.
EnglishEnglish at kindergarten: how much and how do children learn? At the kindergarten, English is taught every day by a teacher in every age group, and it is included in the tuition. At the nursery, it appears in everyday play led by carers who are also English teachers. We learn through play and action, not through exams. The aim is for children to enjoy the language.
